How To Be an Art-House Wanker:

"We artists are indestructible, even in a prison cell or a concentration camp I would be almighty in my world of art. Even if I had to paint my pictures with my wet tongue on the dusty floor of my cell."
P. Picasso.

This weekend I went to the MoMa, adding to my worldwide museum repertoire. Exhibits, Art Basel, First Friday, galleries, etc. etc... I'll admit, I'm a bit of an art asshole. I lust after certain pieces, galavanting about the globe longing to add them to my visual library of things I've seen. Lists of artists and works get shorter with each place I visit. It's like get my fix- gotta get a hit of that Mona Lisa, take a line of the Last Supper. I also shamelessly pursue artists on a TMZ level, drooling over Hirst, Koons, and Kappor at the Tate on another recent museum visit. I love falling in love with art because for me it's either a goal accomplished, or a new discovery. MoMa not only offers free admission on Friday, they also have a floor dedicated to design pieces, which is nice for an art museum. Their collection is phenomenal, and I found some new people and things I really enjoyed, once I get being starstruck...artstruck?

Voila!

"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."

Well GOOD FOR YOU CAMUS, I see no summer in sight!

I. am. exhausted.
Does anyone else feel like it's been winter for years on end? I cannot recall what WARM feels like. Please end now winter. After the cold front of MIAMI the likes of which was unseen since 1927, I cannot take it anymore. I want to wear my Docs for fashion's sake, not because they're the only things capable of warding off the snow.

Going to NYC this week, very excited.

This post is super lame-o, I just feel so blah. I also am feeling very untalented and out of place. I want something magical to happen. Something like SPRINGTIME MAYBE, JEEZ. I would be satisfied with these additions to my wardrobe.

Someone get me off the internet please.

McQueen strikes again, in love.

How did she do this?! I want this hair.
Photography by Loic Peoch. Check it, great stuff.

It disgusts me how fashion-tastic this entry was. I'll think of something charming or witty next time, pinky promise.

Spotted at Paris Fashion Week Spring 2010, S & B Power Struggle

Just kidding, they weren't there, what was there were some mind-blowing shoes. Street fashion never disappoints... frankly, Tommy Ton shots often prove more inspiring then the runway ones. Look for yourselves though, it's been brought to my attention people don't like to READ anymore and actually just prefer to look at pictures. So, voila mes amours! Little to no reading required!

In case you forgot what lurked inside them thangs.

J'aime these!

Je deteste these!
):

I wondered how this madame could walk on those, I suspect they were once pencils.

Then I discovered she rode her bicycle instead.
Yes, please notice her footwear, same as above.
Slave to fashion, or whatever.

People never notice anything.

As shockingly fewer then all know, Mister Barack Obama gave his first State of the Union Address last night. I half-heartedly streamed it while at school, to hear a chorus of "What's that?" After a sum up of who was saying what to who and why, someone said "I don't listen to political figures anymore, it's like listening to fairy tales that never come true, and if I listen to them I might accidently believe them." I found this statement interesting and a bit shocking. I think people are obligated stay in the know, regardless of your political sentiments. I suppose I can understand the fear of believing in HOPE, only to eventually come to find bitter disappointment. I find the current sentiment in this country slightly disturbing- we all loath the present but feel confident in the future because we placed it in a super hero's hands. Or, for those who didn't, they'll be sublimely thrilled to watch him fail [Not everyone, I know]. So here's to optimism and all that jazz... if the future turns out well, that is. All I know is, homeboy better clear my college loans eventually as promised, ktnx.

Continuing on the note of how much we all despise our lives and current situations, I would like to briefly discuss a Mister Holden Caulfied. Call me a traitor to my generation, but I CANNOT STAND THIS MOTHER FUCKER. I can, and will, list the reasons I dislike this character:

1. He's a shitty brother to his lovely younger sister. I personally am a pretty shitty sibling myself, but this stooge blows me right out of the damn water.
2. He's a failed womanizer. As in he wishes he were one, but is incapable, which just makes him super pathetic.
3. He is the most EMO person ever. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say he actually invented emo.
4. He openly admits he's a liar.
5. He simply cannot get his act together, not even to perform basic life tasks. Reading about his life is like watching someone drive into a wall when you know they could have perfectly well just stepped on the damn brake.

So forgive me hipsters, emo kids, and basically everyone in high school who read this bullshit and loved it because they either could "relate" or rejoiced over finally being assigned such a short novel.

May I be struck down by lighting for saying all this about this poor author's work.
RIP J.D. Salinger, I hope you were a better man than this toolbag you created.

Cool.

Something is not quite right, and I cannot quite place my finger on it. I feel like I've forgotten how to do things well.

I can't really do this any justice due to my recent lack of linguistic skills, but please go look at it, it's really awesome. It's called Visionaire. It's a "magazine" I suppose, and each issue is done by a different artist[s] or designer[s] and has a theme. For example, Visionaire 31. Blue contained a stack of posters with different blue artwork featuring different artists including Terry Richardson, and was packaged in a denim shirt by Levi's. Visionaire 56. Solar was designed/embroidered by Calvin Klein and can only be seen in solar light- it appears blank otherwise. Visionaire 54. Sound holds 5 vinyls with over 100 tracks from musicians such as Cat Power and U2 all the way to Alexander McQueen... my personal favorite part of this issue? It comes with a small car which drives around the records, that's how they're played! This all sounds very crazy, it kind of is, but it is all really interesting and I wish I had known about this sooner. Anyone can subscribe to this publication, it will set you back currently $675 yearly, with 4 issues a year [considering an issue was once a Gucci bag, it pays for itself quite quickly.]

I want to subscribe! If you attend PhilaU, our school actually does, and you can request to see the issues, they are housed on the bottom floor of the library.

What if this was the White House?
It is many someone's White House.

Just a side note.

Sweating like a sinner in church!

A friend of mine made a interesting point the other day- we, the ecohungry masses have shown our true colors. Once, we boasted a proud collection of reusable tote bags, unbleached cotton denim pants & tees, and vegan leather kicks. Now we can't seem to rip fur off poor critters fast enough! I will guilty admit I am lusting after some fur items myself, maybe a vest or two, a floor length coat of the pimp variety, who knows? All I know is I keep forgetting my reusable tote bags every time I go to the store [and mind you, they're hanging right by the door], and as a vegetarian, I probably shouldn't want to drape hides of animals across my body. Did we just follow the eco-friendly fashion trend out of guilt? Do we feel we paid our debt for enough seasons and now we need to gluttonously reward ourselves with mother nature's finest?

In other news, another friend sent me this site. It is super odd, I wish it was less creepy a more awesome, but the concept is quite interesting.

That is all. Happy beginning of semester, good luck!

I've read a couple blogs, and they had my ass livid.

As children, we were all warned our worlds would slowly progress from a stark black & white to a progressively muddier range of indistinguishable shades of gray. For example, when you're a kid you think sex, drugs, and rock & roll represent the roots of all evil and you swore you'd always far, far stay away. I, for one, couldn't understand why anyone would even dabble in such dreadful matters!

I think we can all agree things change.

Anyway, what all seems so clear to us as children becomes overwhelming confusing as adults. When you're a kid if you like to color, you figure you should grow be an artist. If you like to make sandwiches, you should grow up to be a cook. Now, someone explain to me how somewhere between the relatively short span of elementary school and now this system went horribly awry. You hear janitors whistling lovely melodies while completely untalented people are up on the stage making bank! This isn't even the biggest problem in my opinion, the worst is regularly employed people appear COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT in excecuting the basic purpose of their jobs. Are they bitter because they don't actually want their jobs, and dreamed of being ballerinas when they were five? Do they actually just lack the skills required, to say, I don't know, PLACE SOMEONE IN THE PROPERLY ASSIGNED DORM ROOM? I'm not pointing fingers here, but if for example, you work in residence life at a university and:

A. A room is empty
B. Two students paid for housing
B1. The same two students requested to live together
C. The students have been attempting to contact you in everyway possible short of smoke signals and you're only response has been "We're not doing room changes right now" [Mind you, if you hadn't made a mistake in the first place a room change wouldn't be necessary, and also, PLEASE tell me when a preferable time for room changes would be instead of move-in days at the beginning of the semester? Just curious.]

Maybe I should bite my tongue. I'm just saying if you have work while a lot of people are frantic for employment and maybe you shouldn't TOTALLY SUCK ASS AT YOUR JOB.

Now that Katy Perry is engaged, my chances of marrying Travis McCoy have gone up ever so slightly from 0%. A girl can dream, sigh.
[I do not condone obsessing over celebrities, but he is an artist, so therefore it is acceptable.]

A lot of people hated on this Rodarte outfit Ms. Portman wore to the New York Times Art and Leisure Weekend.
Aside from the fact that I am in love with her, I don't mind this outfit. I think it's cute in a sloppy chic kind of way.
It wasn't technically a red-carpet event, that dress cost her $40 [Rodarte for Target bitches], her hair and makeup looks amazing, and the yellow looks super pretty on her.
Can any of you haters pull that off for 10x that cost? I think NOT.

Sometimes my personal heel collection makes me weep.
Literally, from pain.
Don't get me wrong, I adore each and every pair equally in the way mothers [suppossedly] love their children. Each one has it's one quirks, a story behind how I came to possess them. A distinct manner of fitting upon my feet. They all, however eventually let me down, as children do their parents- but instead of failing calculus or coming home with a tattoo, they either give me blister or another form of intense pain. For this reason, I, their mother just might dote upon their cousins instead: the wedge. Why? You get the height and look of my children, the heel, but with a fraction of the pain. The above pair, however, doe not come at a fraction of the cost.
Gorgeous.

Back to school domani.
