It's Getting Hard To Be Someone

I am all for markers.
I am all for needles & thread.
I am all for drooling over buttons, beads, brooches, and brocades.

I just feel sometimes I am surrounded by people who are incapable of seeing beyond the four walls of [studio] classrooms or the pages of their [sketch]books.
I'm not really too concerned with them [them being various people I study with in my Fashion Design program] reading this, because I'm sure they're far too concerned with coming up with better ideas than everyone else yet complaining about how their garments are someone SO much more difficult. UG, fashion!

But anyway.

Tonight was the State of The Union Address.
Just that thing, ya know.
Tonight I also went to dinner with a handful of friends from my program at a lovely Indian restaurant.
Mind you, I love them all dearly, but when they were talking about politics and taxes and traveling and living abroad, etc. etc. I just wanted to shout "Put down that samosa sweetheart, and turn on your fucking televisions if you care so much about anything that just spilled out of your mouth."

May lightning strike me if I am wrong, but I feel quite certain none of them knew about that State of the Union thing which happened tonight.

It's not like it's hard to follow. Back in the day that shit was practically carved into stone and read from a mountain top, nowadays Mr. Barack has a Twitter.
Real talk right now: Barack Obama has a Twitter. Becha our parents didn't see that one coming.

I can be largely un-American. I despise weekends dedicated to football, condiments and potato salad make me cringe, and I think Greek life may singlehandedly be responsible for the abysmal quality of higher education in this country. But once a year it doesn't hurt to tune in to the elected leader of our nation's report on the good ole U-S-of A's status. I mean you can check Susie Q's status on Facebook on your iPhone every 15 minutes, but God forbid you see what's going on with health insurance, or you know, the 10 year war we're currently in.

I am not saying I am some enlightened, all-knowing being. [Believe me, if you spoke to me for more than 15 seconds you would see I am far from such.] I am just saying I miss being around people who stimulated my brain and I missed not constantly being under pressure to focus. Maybe if I wasn't daydreaming about how to attach a vinyl sleeve properly I could focus more on the world I live in.
The world you live in isn't just your major in college, your newsfeed, "overnight" success stories, or the way you look just because you've been instructed to focus so much on those things.
I could think about how to vote properly if I focused less.
I could remember the governor of my home state if I focused less.
I could have picked up a novel without being forced to if I focused less.
I could be more concerned with the fact that I am 22 years old I honestly just realized this week that "sponjes" is not how you spell that lovely little thing you wash dished with if I focused less.

Curiouser and Curiouser?

I am questioning my birth certificate, because by the looks of this pool, I must be a water sign. If this Hariri & Hariri Architecture beauty sat in my backyard, I doubt I'd ever get much done...except maybe some banging cookouts and cocktails parties.

Fourth time might be the charm for Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland next year already looks completely gorgeous. Trippy, dark, and haunting..amazing cast..available in 3D...sounds like a winner. And, yes that's Johnny, Helena, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

Did you know our President Mr. Barack Obama won a GRAMMY? He also liked the reefer and hollerin' at sistas at parties- his words, not mine. As if I didn't love this man enough already, he opens up letters people like you and me send him, and he reads them! HIMSELF! He has banned gifts from lobbyists, something we as a nation should be embrassed to have ever allowed.

If you like your politics watered down like me.

Proof we elected a living creature as president.

I have an excellent idea. Let's change the subject.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are now seeing the beginnings of another stage of human evolution.

If I had a fairy godmother, I would have to insist she make me an X-Men mutant. It would simply be awesome. I have constant internal battles over which one I'd like to be (It varies between Archangel, Jean Grey, Mystique, or her son Nightcrawler), or I could even be a brand new mutant! I watch the movies and develop this bitter rage, fervently envious of these powers and contemplating the badass things I could do with such mutant skills. Being said, no matter how overdone and god-awful comic book movies are becoming, I promise you I will see all, any, and every X-Men or X-Men related film....so when I saw those claws and that epic head of hair up on the big screen, I knew it was time: WOLVERINE. If I did happen to magically transform into Jean Grey, Wolverine would definately be one of the top perks. This man is a BEAST. Self-healing, anti-authority, and mysterious, Wolverine really has quite a good deal going for him.

Today I made discovery thanks to a Miss Kirby Lodin...WOLVERINE has been leaked a month before it's release date. Though tempting to watch, I will hold out till the actual release for the full effect. I've heard rumors of some feuds involving lawsuits and Watchmen, but one can never be certain. I find this upsetting simply because it just seems completely unfair for all those involved in producing this movie and having it spoiled for them. Maybe it's some twisted April Fool's joke, or it could also be a clever publicity stunt, who am I to say? Whatever it is, what truly matters in life remains constant: I still REALLY want to be a mutant, Hugh Jackman owns, and the internet is filled with such wholesome activit
ies.

(Side note also in film: I saw
Persopolis tonight, and I was really pleasantly surprised. Definately a worthwhile see both visually and plot-wise. Quite eye-opening and I learned quite a deal about Iran I hadn't realized. Marjane Satrapi co-directed the movie based off the autobiographical graphic novel. Her ability to educate on such dark subjects, yet still amuse her audience is quite admirable and successful. I also watched a good part of Antonio Gaudi, a film by Japanese director Hiroshi Teshigahara. Though virtually free of all commentary, I don't think I've ever seen a film use music and image together so impecably. The shots were beautiful, the mood leaned toward eerie, and it really proved a picture, paired with flawlessly chosen music, really does say a thousand words.)
